These challening works are the product of a thinker who has spent a lifetime of cross-disciplinary study on the issues of capitalism, politics, geography and related topics. Intended principally for an academic audience, Mr. Harvey's research succeeds in providing guidance for others who may want to further explore these issues in the future.The first lecture, "Neo-liberalism and the restoration of class power" is by far the most accessible in the book. In essence a 62-page synopsis of Mr. Harvey's exceptional book, "A Brief History of Neoliberalism", the author convincingly reveals neoliberalism to be an ideology whose primary goal is to enshrine and protect elite power. Mr. Harvey's brilliant analysis connects growing income disparities with a concomitant rise in militarism and fundamentalism which he contends must be addressed with a revived popular struggle for democracy. The author's thoughts on this timely and important topic is quite simply essential reading.The second lecture is entitled, "Notes towards a theory of uneven geographical development". As is usual for David Harvey, this series of three essays considers the role of space at both the political economic and the philosophical level. The first two essays are speeches given as Hettner Lectures in Geography at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, the last essay is a reflection on space as a 'keyword' in the sense of Raymond Williams. Together, this forms a small booklet of little more than 140 pages.The first essay, "Neo-Liberalism and the Restoration of Class Power", is an overview of the resurgence of neoliberalism in recent decades, and the deleterious effects this has had both practically and in academics. Much of this is known to any leftist and the same sort of thing can be found in any radical blog.The second essay is "A Theory of Uneven Geographical Development". This essay is much more interesting and is basically a summary and example of the typical approach of Harvey in utilizing Marxist economical geography. This text can be considered an introduction to the subject, useful to look into before one would go on to read "Limits to Capital", Harvey's most important work of this kind.The last essay, "Space as a Key Word", is a philosophical analysis of the meaning of the word space, and its various dialectical aspects. This is in my view the most novel and contributive essay in the collection, as it builds on the work of Lefebvre, Einstein and Marx to construct a concept of space at nine different levels of abstraction. Two different matrices showing the intersection of these levels are provided by Harvey, sure to give inspiration for new thinking on this subject, which I think was the essay's main intent considering its shortness.Whether it is worth it to buy this booklet separately is hard to say. It can be quite useful as an introduction to Harvey's way of thinking, to be read before some of his real books. The last essay is also a good insight into a little discussed subject, the philosophy of space. But certainly purchase of this work is hardly necessary, any other Harvey book will do as well.

This book was recommended to me by a medium who said that starting out as a healer is a good way to develop mediumship. Much of the book didn't really apply to me, though, as at this point I don't see auras and so could not use the material. However, I kept the book just in case I develop the ability later on.If you can see auras, though, I imagine this book will be very helpful. There are a lot of charts and diagrams that relate to auras and medical problems.The most important thing that I did get was buried in the text near the end of the book: Having patience is a direct statement of faith in the Divine plan.

It's okay. I haven't finished reading it yet, but it's not quite what I expected. I thought it would be a guide on self-healing and how to work towards healing others through energy. The first part of the book was rather disappointing because it essentially said that the author has had an innate skill since childhood which has made her successful. It also seemed to imply that only through courses could one learn how to do what the book proposes. I'm not against courses, but I found this discouraging. I'm about half-way through with the book, but have yet to read about how to actually work towards healing for myself, let alone others. It does talk about auras and chakras which I have found interesting, and may find helpful as I try to learn more about this topic. I wish it discussed less about the author's personal experiences (cases with patients as well as the author's innate abilities) and more about how others might go about learning these techniques. Overall, this is not the book I thought it would be based on the glowing reviews.

I liked it. After I read it thoroughly I gave it to an acquaintance who had parkinson's. After reading it he applied what he learned to himself. He no longer shakes.

This book is useful if you already have psychic ability, but don't buy into her marketing that you can develop it to her level. You can't. You're born with psychism. You either have it or you don't. If you don't already see auras then you're not going to develop full on aura vision by studying this material. If you're already psychic, then this book sheds light on a lot of useful information. I have never seen such accurate aura diagrams or descriptions of why auras behave the way they do. Her study on this topic has been very thorough.From everything I know and have experienced personally, this book is very accurate. Some of it is going to be interpretive because Brennan is just one person and she doesn't represent the full world of psychic mediumship -- but nonetheless, her descriptions are the most accurate I have seen in modern published material. Often, new agers write books about mediumship, but they themselves have no real talent. As a result their information misleads others. Brennan's info is reliable.She gets demerits from me for two reasons. The first and most important is that her course-work empire has become disgustingly bloated and, as is typical of many American business practices, she has become a mogul. She's less accessible now than in her humble beginnings and her celebrity status makes me question her spiritual integrity a little bit. Through the material in this book, she holds expensive weekend workshops with various levels of graduation to psychic hopefuls who want to "heal" others with these new abilities. But they're all being duped. If you aren't a born medium then you'll never be one.The other demerit is that in the book, she can get very technical and heady. I didn't care for all the talk about NASA, frequencies and wavelengths. I'm psychic so you don't need to validate your perceptions to me. Just tell me what they are and I'll know if you're a faker or not. Fortunately, she is not a faker, but I could have done without all the scientific babble. Scientists don't believe psychics are real anyway so who cares.

It's a classic, but I find that it leaves no room for those who percieve energies in any way differeently from the way the author does. She is incredibly detailed as though there were only one way to view or detect very complex fields. I may be wrong, but I kept wanting to say, "Loosen up, Barbara!" That said, I thought the first part of the book was excellent.

This book is sort of an authority on the structure of the human energetic system, in my opinion. Barbara Brennan describes the human auric fields and the "chakras" within them in a way which shows considerable insight and is written in a precise and accessible way. However, just because it's "accessible" doesn't mean that it's a wham bam thank you ma'am kind of book- it's one to come back to, along with her follow-up book "Light Emerging".Other than the very good descriptions of the various levels of the human system, I found it particularly interesting that she describes the development of a human from birth (in fact, before birth) to adulthood. She talks about how the chakras develop and gives a fascinating perspective on very natural actions that children take, such as when they will nuzzle up to their parents.Also, she talks about various "defense mechanisms" that we have, and describes the inter-personal interactions that these bring about with other people. Reflecting on these phenomena from the perspective of a play of energy was quite fascinating, I thought.Overall, I would say that if you have any inclination to read something that will give you more insight into your physical/energetic/psychological/spiritual/combination-of-all-of-these makeup as a human being, give it a shot.

So much information in this book. This is a major contribution to the field of energetic healing, and is already a classic reference.Much recommended for energy workers.

Matt Avery’s research into the Chevy COPO muscle cars of the 60’s & 70’s is an interesting read. This is a well written & researched history of the men behind the cars and the cars themselves. Anyone that Loves the musclecar era will enjoy this book and photos... Great Book!

Very pleased with the contents of the book. There is new information included concerning the COPO cars and the program itself that I liked.

Of all the books I have read and bought this is the most factual. The individuals that were consulted are the best. The quality of the pictures , the content is without compare. The price through Amazon was the best. If you enjoy Muscle Cars this is a must read. Joe Maggio

I am a huge GM guy,I've always been crazy about General Motors great line of vehicles specifically the Classic 50s/60s vehicles up to the 80s. The Mark Of Excellence' central office production order Or COPO system was not initially intended for Muscle Cars even though all MuscleCar fans know it now,This beautiful first of it's kind book takes a look at The COPO cars of the 60s,a Little background before delving into it, and goes on to detail not just Camaros,Chevelles and Novas but Corvairs(Yenko Stingers) as well! I would love to have seen/read about Any Corvettes but it is not included or glanced over,no matter,the point of the book fails not and I Love looking at some of the Sleeper vehicles some lucky gearhead owns now or owned then or ordered initially. COPO cars ate up the asphalt and now while you may not ever be able to own one you can dream of owning them and your not too far from this book like I am,I throughly enjoyed it . I Love it.

I was totally amazed by this book! It is very informative on the COPO, which I was not familiar with. Central Office Production Order-Chevy's process of handling special, out-of-the-ordinary circumstances for new vehicle orders. There was so much research put into creating this amazing book. It focuses on 10 different models/years of Chevy cars including-Corvair, Camaro, Nova SS, Chevelle, and Vega.It contains many color photos throughout the book. It also contains a few vintage black & white pics. They show every angle of the cars exterior and also interior and engine close-ups.I love how it depicts the different factory options and specifics offered with each car.The Appendix 1 contains some interesting facts on all 1969 ZL1 Camaros- VIN #, Color, Ordered By, Sold By, and Factory Options.Appendix 2 contains 1968 Gibb Novas-VIN #, Color Code, Color Description, and Type of Transmission.So much research involved in writing this book.It is a must-have for any vintage Chevy muscle car enthusiast or anyone that just loves cars for that matter.

Aside from the likable Sarah, the wonderful social history is very absorbing for those interested in women's lives during the 1850's. As a historian an author of the book: SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MISCELLANY, I rate this book with 5 stars for its excellent overview and in-depth look at the true lives of women who came to California during the Gold Rush. This is not a book filled with the fanciful notions of a romantic's point of view. No, this is a gut-wrenching look at the realities of pioneering California and the women who tamed the wild land and the wild men!

After reading this book I realized that Sarah Royce was an amazing woman. Her book simply states how she and her family traveled to Ca. for the Gold Rush and what they did once they arrived. A must read for anyone interested in Ca. history.

This book is definitely on the beginners side of the spectrum. (no pun intended) You're not going to learn to be a production designer just from reading it, but it's a great start to becoming more aware of the use of color in film (or comics, video games or any other visual media) to influence underlying mood of the story. And once you're aware of color's presence, you can start making educated choices on how to use color in your own work.Although a few more pictures would've been nice, the author does a good job of taking each of the six primary & secondary colors and defining its role in general and then giving numerous specific examples of the different visual and emotional tones each color can take.If nothing else, this book added about 8 movies to my Netflix queue.

Made color correlations I would have never put together. Not a tedious read as one would expect of an "educational" tome. Quite interesting.

Barely any reference photos in the book, relies way too much on the knowledge of the films it refers to. Overall a weak analysis of the use of color as a literary tool.

Patti does a great job communicating how color can be used to tell a story and reveal character; which you’ll agree is an important tool for any artist to have in their creative toolbox. Most books on color either get too science heavy or seem to get into abstruse, almost mystical territory. This book is a practical smooth read, helping you to exercise your intuitions about color in storytelling. Love it.

I had been looking for a book like this for ages. I can only recommend this book to anyone who is involved with film, and not only cinematographers or art designers. I wish I had read this book when I was in film school, my films would have looked much better. It really gives you an overview on the impact of colors in film and helps you to understand when and why a specific color should be or could be used. It does not try to set up rules for color use, instead it functions more as a guideline on how a specific color could be used to influence your audience's emotions.Awesome Book. Easy Read.

I really wanted what this book promised, what it held out to me in the "search inside" feature - but the deficiencies in style, content, and format are severe enough to warrant a serious warning against purchasing this book, or at the very least, this edition.The text is written like new-age spiritual guidance lit - there are gaps in logic everywhere, and every argument is based off of a story instead of a fact. Providing some acuity on a color or its psychological effects would be what I would expect from a book that costs as much as a textbook, instead, the reader is put in the mood for the upcoming chapter with descriptions of color that read like horoscopes. Reds are divided up into "Powerful, lusty, and defiant reds," & "Anxious, angry, and romantic reds." Why not start off with cool reds and warm reds? Because you're being sold on the words, not on the colors, and not on some sort of proof.Which leads me to the fact that there are 28 stills from films in this 243 page book. To reiterate: 243 page book on visual storytelling, 28 examples. Oh, there are some nice pictures of road signs and various other stock photos, and - no joke - some paintings the author's students made. 12 of those inside. They're kind of nice. But they are nothing more than a cheap magician's misdirection - these students come up again and again as proof that people "see" a color a certain way. Yeah, red's "anger" or "passion." I don't need a book, or someone else's experience to tell me this - I bump my head, or rub my eyes, and I see red. I want to be told how red communicates anger and passion to an audience. Simply stating that it does so is not providing me with a fact, it's providing a tautology.Now let's look past the medium and to the message: as long as we take the emotional cues we're told to, we have a little interesting analysis underscored with flecks of color theory, but this is in fact still a problem - the text ought to be centered around the color theory; instead, the sections read like some films were screened, the author wrote down a couple obvious ideas, then filed them by color - and missed the best films and points entirely. Where is Kieslowski's COLORS trilogy? Three top-shelf films, each based around a color, ignored. Talking about the color orange in "The Godfather?" How about, I don't know, mentioning the ORANGES present when main characters are killed? No sir. How about a chapter for black, and a chapter for white? Not technically colors, sure, but we use them as and/or with colors. A lot.If you're really considering purchasing this book, try very hard to find it at a library first. Or look up a color on wikipedia. If you're set on spending money, buy a color wheel, or simply look further for color theory.I'm going to donate my copy to the library.
