I had already read couple of books on microservices apart from listening to Netflix story many times and studying different patterns for building microservices but it was never clear to me when to build a microservice v/s monolith until Parminder Singh explained with concrete real-world examples in this book on benefits v/s pitfalls from his own experience.I have been working on a very large monolithic platform for years which clearly create the roadblock for a team to innovate and deliver value to customers faster because of the nature of monolithic services. This book can be a bible in the organization like mine to redesign the platform with a right set of microservices in containers which supports the faster innovation and can easily scale to support the business growth.This book has many hands-on exercises which obviously fosters the learning and provides every nitty-gritty details to educate you on how to develop and, operate many microservices together to build a robust solution for your business using containers.It prepares you to make a right strategic decision for your organization when transitioning to the microservices world or build a microservices based solution from scratch in a right way without reinventing the wheels and learning from the invaluable experience of the author.This book is a must-read for you and your team if you are thinking of embarking on a journey of microservices.
One of the best book on microservices i have ever come across. Being a Cloud architect, i do hear a lot about these services and organizations trying to adopt microservices architecture where they are facing many challenges and have had different degrees of success.The book did to me exactly what author's intention was - it connected a lot of different dots. It is the perfect balance between laying out just the groundwork for understanding microservices and giving great examples and references along with some great case studies on how to actually implement some of the concepts.If you're looking to learn about microservices and trying to adopt the same in your organization, this is a must read!
I love this book. It’s a good book of these topics with real examples. It is suitable to whom knows these a little or even none.
Well written by folk who clearly understand that "telling facts" isn't a good way to write a book. They explain and illustrate the use of this methodology's features very clearly, and incrementally. Awesome.
I needed something to understand a large installation we acquired with mainly micro-services. This book that I read under 4 days in evenings helped me completely understand all the conversations among technical team members. Not overly too difficult to follow, it was an excellent choice!
Parminder provides an incredibly useful overview of microservices and containers as well as compelling information on whether the choice is right for your organization. In later chapters he gets down to the brass tacks of working with specific tools and even includes case studies that encompass the creation of a monolithic application, migrating it to microservices, and containerizing it. If you are looking for a way to get up to speed on the concepts of microservices and containers or if you want to learn how to actually get started, this is the book for you.
Love it. Good read and helped me make a decision on should i use microservices or not. A hands on project in the later part of the book was very useful.
