The last official revision of the Church of England's Book of Common Prayer was in 1662. It's interesting how they are updating and augmenting their liturgical choices.
This seems to be the way that the liturgy of Churches in the Anglican Communion is headed these days.There are so many options here that services are getting hard to follow for the ordinary worshipper in the pew.Many C of E churches are compiling their own Orders of Service for Sunday and other services and I can see why.My own preference is for a truly common Holy Communion service that would suit worshippers in all Anglican churches all over the world where English is the language of the liturgy but I know that is unrealistic these days since every national church has its own priorities, not to mention the "needs" of minority groups within each church.My fear is that liturgy is dividing us in the Anglican Communion rather than uniting us.Having said that, I feel that "Common Worship" is a useful resource for all Anglican churches in developing liturgical forms, even if they aren't "Common" any more.There is an enormous amount of good material here, despite its complexity.I regret that all Anglicans don't have a "Book of Common Prayer" that we can all own and share any more.
